The third Chrismon symbol is now on our tree. The third symbol is the keys.
You will note that I have put off posting the symbols for a
few days. I have put this one off a bit,
because this blog has a rather diverse Christian readership, among whom would
be a variety of positions regarding authority in the church. Some regard the Pope at Rome as having
primacy, others consider all Bishops to have equal authority, and still others
would consider the priesthood to lie solely with all believers, and would
consider the Bible, alone, to hold authority.
I suppose that I offer the keys, which represent authority
in the church, for your consideration, in a spirit of respect, ...and ask that you
consider that, regardless of the Christian neighborhood in which we reside, we
all call Jesus 'Lord'…and that,…is the key.
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven,
and
whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on
Earth will be loosed in Heaven.

For fifteen years, our church performed a play we called "The Keys, the Cross, and the Kingdom." During that time, I came to understand well the important symbolic and practical power of the Keys. Not only is it God's symbol of authority, but its transfer into His hands from Satan's was part of Christ's commission on Earth. Thank you for this post.
