Worries about veil slippage keep me awake at night.I know,... I need to get a life, and some sleep.
I am thinking of developing a removable comb to be included on all veils in the shop, at no extra charge....to put the slippage issue to rest. No pun intended. (Okay, after I typed it, I decided that I kind of intended it.)
Opinions anyone?
We do offer pinning loops, and the option to purchase a sewn in comb, but I would imagine that some patrons may not realize that a comb might be useful, until they begin wearing their veils. A comb that could be either used, or removed, at any time seems like a solution to me.
Any thoughts?
I do not know how to sew, so this may seem like a silly question. :) How would the "removable" aspect of the comb work?
ReplyDeleteSo far pinning loops have been good for me, although I don't use pins often so there has been a bit of a learning curve for me as a new "veiler." But I am getting the hang of it!
I *HAVE* to use a comb when wearing a mantilla, and mine are sewn in.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know how you'd use a removable one, though? My wedding veil came in two pieces... chapel length and cathedral length. The cathedral length was attachable by a velcro strip above the comb (the chapel length was attached to the comb and could not be removed).
Is that what you've got in mind for yours?
I find it fascinating that anyone is able to keep veils on without ties / pins / combs of some sort. I'm simply unable to do it.
I use pins, always. It is a bit of a challenge to create veils that will stay in place for women who do not. I bought lots of veils from other makers, before starting to make my own, and I wouldn't wear any of them without pins.
ReplyDeleteIt is a matter of counter balancing the weight of the veil lace, and the trim, from front and sides to back. Our veil that is pictured in this post, actually, stays in place pretty well without pins, because of the weight of the pearls all around. Some stay in place better than others.
I'm thinking either a thin rounded elastic expanse of multiple "s" shapes that the comb could be slipped into or out of. Or...a thin velcro strip that could be attached to the top bar of the comb and the crown of the veil? I'm not sure. I would have to do lots of development and testing. That's why I'm inquiring. If people don't want it, then there is no reason to change anything.
Silica, when you receive your veil that is on the way, it will have a new style of pinning loops, that allow you to slip the bobby pins straight in and back. I'd love to hear whether you like it.
Oooh, what a wonderful idea! I sometimes wear my Grandmother's mantilla, and it definitely slips. If you offer one, let me know, and I'd buy it.
ReplyDeleteI'm "pinning" my mantilla style coverings (others, too - learned this nifty trick from a website for Mennonite style coverings!). Depending on the size of the mantilla, I might want to tie it, therefore not needing a comb... at any rate, I could see a desire for a removable comb option, especially with those that could also be worn as a scarf! :-)
